Oculoplastic Surgery

Refresh your eyes and look more youthful with blepharoplasty. Upper eyelid surgery corrects drooping and heaviness, while lower eyelid surgery addresses under-eye bags and puffiness. Both procedures can be done together or separately, depending on your needs. Ideal for those with excess eyelid skin or age-related changes causing a tired appearance.
Upper eyelid surgery takes about an hour under local anesthetic. You'll recover in our private pods before going home. Expect about a week of downtime with minimal bruising. Antibiotic ointment and cold compresses are recommended for healing. A follow-up is scheduled 7-14 days post-surgery.
Lower eyelid surgery involves incisions inside or below the lash line to remove or reposition fat and tighten skin. This creates a smoother, more youthful under-eye area. It's done with sedation or general anesthesia. Expect 1-2 weeks of downtime with some bruising and swelling. A follow-up is scheduled 7-14 days post-surgery.
Correct droopy eyelids with ptosis surgery. This procedure tightens the levator muscle, lifting the eyelid under local anesthetic. Incisions are hidden in the eyelid crease, minimising scarring. Post-surgery, antibiotic ointment and cold compresses aid healing. Recovery takes about a week, with a follow-up appointment in 1-2 weeks.
Brow ptosis, or drooping brows, can be corrected with a brow lift, either alone or alongside blepharoplasty. I offer surgical techniques such as internal brow fixation (browpexy) and direct brow lift, tailored to your individual needs and desired outcome. The procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic. There are also non-surgical options for lifting the brow, including anti-wrinkle injections.
A chalazion, or eyelid cyst, is a common, harmless lump that develops when an oil gland in the eyelid becomes blocked. It typically causes a visible lump, redness, and discomfort.
Chalazion removal is a straightforward procedure performed under local anaesthetic. A small incision is made on the inside of the eyelid to drain the cyst, leaving no visible scar.
After surgery, you might experience some mild swelling and bruising, which usually subsides within a few days. Antibiotic ointment will be prescribed to prevent infection.
Ectropion occurs when the lower eyelid droops and turns outwards, affecting one or both eyes. This exposes the inner eyelid, increasing the risk of infection. Symptoms include soreness, redness, excessive tearing, and a gritty or dry feeling.
Ectropion surgery, performed under local anaesthetic, takes approximately 30 minutes per eye. After the procedure, a protective eye pad is applied for the rest of the day. You'll also receive antibiotic eye drops to reduce inflammation and prevent infection. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for 1-2 weeks after your surgery.
Entropion, affecting one or both eyes, is when the eyelid (usually the lower one) turns inwards, causing eyelashes to rub against the eye and leading to discomfort.
Surgery to correct entropion involves tightening the muscles and tendons of the lower eyelid. You'll typically have stitches just below the lashes and at the outer corner of the eye.
After surgery, you'll receive antibiotic ointment for a week and be advised to apply cold compresses regularly to reduce swelling and bruising. A follow-up appointment to review your results and recovery will be scheduled for 1-2 weeks post-surgery.

Most eyelid cysts and moles are benign and can be surgically removed under local anaesthetic. The procedure typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.
Following surgery, you'll receive antibiotic ointment to apply for a week and be advised to use cold compresses regularly to minimise post-operative swelling and bruising. Recovery usually takes around seven days. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for 1 to 2 weeks after surgery to review your healing.
In accordance with best practice guidelines, all eyelid moles, lesions, lumps, or swellings will be thoroughly investigated. Samples will be sent for histological analysis to confirm their nature. This cost is included in your overall treatment price.
Xanthelasma are yellowish cholesterol deposits that appear on the eyelids, often near the inner corners. While generally harmless, they can be a cosmetic concern.
Xanthelasma removal can be achieved through various methods, the most effective of which is surgical excision. Surgical excision typically involves sutures, antibiotic ointment, and a follow-up appointment 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

Aesthetic Treatments

Botulinum toxin injections, commonly known as anti-wrinkle injections, temporarily relax facial muscles to smooth wrinkles and fine lines. They are effective for forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines, and can also lift the brow or correct minor asymmetry. This minimally invasive procedure requires little downtime, with results lasting around four months.
Revitalise your skin with polynucleotide injections. These bio-stimulants work at a cellular level to hydrate, firm, and contour, addressing dullness, dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles. They boost collagen production and protect against free radical damage. Target specific areas like under-eye circles, cheekbones, jawline, neck, and décolletage for improved elasticity and definition. For optimal results, a course of two treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, is recommended, followed by a maintenance session 8-9 months later.
Profhilo, a unique bio-remodelling treatment, uses high-concentration hyaluronic acid to combat skin laxity, hydrate deeply, and rejuvenate aging skin. Unlike fillers, it works by stimulating your skin's own natural processes. Ideal for face and body, especially crepey neck skin. Achieve optimal results with two initial treatments, one month apart, followed by maintenance treatments every four months.

With a variety of filler types available, each tailored to specific needs, treatments are customised to achieve your desired results. This minimally invasive procedure involves little downtime, with any minor swelling or bruising typically subsiding within days.
Stimulate your skin's natural healing process with microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT). This procedure uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries, triggering collagen production and improving skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and scars like acne scars and stretch marks. A series of three monthly treatments is typically recommended, with maintenance treatments as needed. Mild redness is common for 24-48 hours.

Ophthalmology

Ms Naughton is a highly experienced Ophthalmologist, skilled in diagnosing and treating eye conditions that can cause disturbances or blurring of the vision.
Blepharitis is a common problem, presenting as an inflammation of the rims of the eyelids, with the eyes feeling sore, gritty and dry. Sometimes a dandruff-like crust forms along the lash line.
Blepharitis is often caused by a build-up of bacteria at the base of the eyelashes; or by a blockage in the oil glands of the eyelid; but it is also commonly found in people with skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, and dermatitis. There are multiple treatment modalities for this condition.
Dry eyes is a condition that causes the eyes to feel irritated, itchy and burning. The standard treatment includes instilling lubricant drops to ease some of these symptoms. Additionally, the use of punctal plugs, made of silicone, is an effective treatment. These plugs usually stay in place for 3 to 6 months.
A tiny punctal plug is inserted in the tear duct opening (punctum) of your eye, and is barely visible. This plug will block tear drainage and therefore allow the surface of the eye to retain moisture.
Epiphora is a condition that causes the eyes to over-produce tears and water excessively. Often age-related, it is a common ailment in the elderly, and often accompanied with symptoms such as blurred vision, sensitivity to light, soreness, redness, bloodshot eyes, and swelling of the eyelids.
Other causes of epiphora are from injury to the eye or a foreign body irritating the eye; allergies (such as hay fever or allergic rhinitis); infections and inflammation; and obstruction of the tear duct. Treatment (which ranges from medication to surgery) depends on the cause of the epiphora.
This is a common condition, which causes the eye to be ‘bloodshot’ with inflamed blood vessels, making the eyeball look red or pink.
There are multiple causes for conjunctivitis: viral, bacterial, or an allergic reaction. Ms Naughton will diagnose the cause and prescribe the appropriate treatment; usually eye drops.
Thyroid eye disease is the most common condition affecting the eye socket (orbit) in the UK. It is more common in females than males and is seen mostly between the ages of 20 and 60.
For the most part thyroid eye disease is seen in patients with dysfunction of the thyroid gland. This is usually secondary to the immune system (antibodies) acting against the thyroid gland resulting in an increase in thyroid hormones circulating in the bloodstream.
It can affect the eyes in the following way:
- Puffiness and redness of the eyelids (lid swelling)
- Eyelid retraction giving the staring appearance.
- Dry eye symptoms due to exposure of the surface of the eye.
- Movement of the eyes forward (exophthalmos) due to expansion of fat and muscle (further adding to the staring appearance).
- Double vision (diplopia) or squint secondary to the eye muscle involvement
- The eye socket may ache, particularly on eye movement.
- Treatment is tailored individually, depending on the activity and severity of the condition.
Flashes and floaters happen because of changes in the vitreous, the clear, jelly-like substance that fills the inside of your eyeball. The vitreous jelly shrinks as you get older, and slowly pulls away from the inside surface of the eye. This shrinking and separation or detachment of the vitreous from the retina is a common phenomenon, particularly in people over 50 years of age, and causes no retinal damage in nine out of 10 patients. It is known as a posterior vitreous detachment.
Flashes and floaters rarely lead to any serious complications, so you generally don’t need any treatment for them. If they are troublesome, the effect of floaters might be minimised by wearing dark glasses. This will help especially in bright sunlight or when looking at a brightly lit surface. In many cases, the flashes disappear with time and the floaters get less noticeable as your brain adjusts to the jelly change.
New symptoms require a review to examine the retina at the back of the eye to ensure that the jelly separation has not caused a retinal tear or retinal detachment, which would require treatment.
